As of 1 May 2026, the Belastingdienst has changed its banking partner to Rabobank. This transition results in new bank account numbers, which will be reflected in all official correspondence from that date onward.
From a practical perspective, taxpayers must ensure that payments—such as wage tax, VAT, corporate income tax, and personal income tax—are made to the updated account numbers. Payments made via iDEAL or Wero will update automatically. However, manual payment setups (e.g. via online banking templates or standing orders) require adjustment.
Tax refunds issued by the Dutch Tax Authorities will, as of 1 May 2026, be paid from the standard account number NL04 RABO 0200 1122 44, which will also become the primary account for incoming payments.
If a payment is mistakenly made to the former account held with ING, the amount will be automatically redirected to the new account under existing interbank arrangements. While no corrective action is required, such rerouting may cause processing delays. In a strict legal sense, this could create timing mismatches relevant for payment deadlines (e.g. late payment interest or penalties). In our view this risk should in those cases likely be for the taxpayer.
Practical note
It is advisable to update all saved payment details and internal processes promptly to mitigate timing risks and ensure proper allocation of payments.
